This portrait possibly by Stephen Slaughter shows one of
the most influential people in the history of natural history.
Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753) was an enthusiastic collector,
amassing a vast collection of natural history specimens, objects,
artworks, coins and books. On his death his vast collection
partly founded the British Museum.
