William Holman Hunt was a leading figure in the Pre-Raphaelite
movement. This highly popular artist produced artwork that
is still widely admired today.
His portrait of Richard Owen (1804-1892) conveys the strength
of character of this exceptional scientist. Through Owen’s
determination the Natural History Museum was built and opened
to the public in 1881.
