Moths by Harris

Moses Harris (1730-c.1788)
[Silk-worm and garden tiger moths], c.1766-1788.
Watercolour on paper, 328 x 248 mm.

Moses Harris became interested in insects from an early age. This wonderfully detailed watercolour depicts the life cycle of two species of moth, the silk-worm moth (Bombyx mori) with its food-plant the Mulberry tree and the garden tiger moth (Arctia caja).
