TEA

Camellia sinensis (L.) Kuntze (Theaceae).

Placed in the genus Camellia by the German botanist Otto Kuntze in 1887, tea was originally described by Linnaeus in 1753 as a member of the genus Thea.

Native to China and South-East Asia.

Life form: a small shrub or treelet, growing as a forest understorey plant.

Parts used: leaves dried and cured to make a beverage.
