Creating distribution maps is one of the important procedures in taxonomic and floristic research. Modern GIS are expensive, complicated, voluminous and are not always suited to our needs. For the project "Umbelliferae of Russia" we have developed a simple technique to automate this procedure. Distribution data of species in the RF regions are saved in MS Excel tables, natural and adventive distribution having different marks. The map of Russia was taken from a geographic atlas and changed into digital image. Input parameter of the program is species name. Output is a coloured distribution map by RF regions, natural and anthropogenic distribution being presented in different colours. The MS table is converted to XML-form. The main program is developed in the C++ Builder environment.
