The project "Weed plants in the Russian flora" was founded in 2000 with the purpose of creating a database of weed plants species growing in the Russian territory. To date the database includes 4 parts: "Reference", "VIZR herbarium", "Geobotanical descriptions", and "Information gathering ".
The part "Reference" includes the following information: botanical species description, distribution (common information), ecological preferences of the species, harmful effects, land treatment methods of weed control, map of the zone of main distribution, map of the zones of weediness on Russian territory, and plant picture. Currently, information for 150 weed plants species is included.
In the part "VIZR herbarium" herbarium specimens are registered with their label data and labels can be printed from the database. About 2,000 specimens have been recorded up to date.
The part "Geobotanical descriptions" allows storing and analysing the information obtained by means of crops surveys. The data are subdivided into "Passport of field", that include indexes of geographical-ecological, soil-climatic and land treatment factors that determine forming a certain type of weed infestation of the field, and "Description of field", that represent the characteristics of weed species composition in a field and their quantitative indexes.
Data on the growth of weed plants species in different regions of the country obtained from publications and the herbarium collections in other cities are contained in the part "Information gathering". The present version contains about 5000 notes.
For the future, further addition of information to each part of the system as well as perfecting the search system are planned, as well as the creation of regional maps of weed species distribution based on data of the parts "VIZR herbarium" and "Information gathering". The database is maintained in the format SUBD FoxProVisual.
