- TDWG 2004 a great success! Highlights:
At least 115 delegates from 86 organisations in 26 countries attended the Meeting. The Plenary sessions are over and the subgroup sessions are now in progress. At the final business meeting of the Plenary there was general agreement that this had been one of the most successful TDWG meetings ever, and probably the most exciting at a high technical level. Chairman Stan Blum praised the standard of presentations and discussion, and thanked all delegates for their contributions. He said he is really pleased about work done to start to bring DiGIR and BioCASe together and was impressed by some of the things introduced during the UBIF session. There is now a firm framework for the establishment of a Steering Committee to coordinate the expanded subgroups and efforts to bring the various strands of TDWG activities together. Stan described changes in the way subgroups will be expected to work. A "charter" will be posted on the web site. There will also be a new web site archive.

The Taxonomic Databases Working Group Annual Meeting 2004 has been confirmed as scheduled for the week of 11-18 October 2004, hosted by Landcare Research, in Christchurch, New Zealand, immediately following the Global Biodiversity Information Framework (GBIF) Governing Board Autumn Meeting (to be held in Wellington, New Zealand, 4-8 October 2004).
The main themes of the meeting will be the Biological Collections Data, Structure of Descriptive Data (SDD) and Taxonomic Names, to coincide with anticipated developments in those areas, and new topics Imaging and Observation.
The meeting will be held in association with the Council of Heads of Australian Herbaria (CHAR) and Herbarium Information Systems Committee (HISCOM) meetings, also to be held in New Zealand following the TDWG meeting.
Important changes to the overall schedule: the amount of interest this Meeting has generated means that a large number of topics need to be included in the main sessions. To accommodate this it has been necessary to reduce the time allotted to the Introduction to TDWG and to re-order the sequence of events. The latest draft Schedule can be found here: Provisional Programme Schedule
Further details will be added on this site when available.
The Taxonomic Databases Working Group Executive would like to express its thanks for other offers to host the Annual Meetings in 2004 - 2007. Provisional plans for 2005 to 2007 will be posted as appropriate.
