The Hotel Praia-Mar is in Carcavelos.
The Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência is in Oeiras.
Oeiras and Carcavelos are on the coastline, about 15 Km west from Lisboa.

A very convenient suburban train system http://www.cp.pt/linhas/cascais/e_mapa.html connects Lisboa (Cais-do-Sodre station) to Cascais. All trains stop in Oeiras. Most of them also stop in Carcavelos. The ride takes 20 to 30 minutes.and costs about one Euro. At least two trains per hour. The timetable is at http://www.cp.pt/linhas/cascais/horarios/e_horarios.html.

The Cais-do-Sodre station in Lisboa links directly to the Lisboa Subway system called Metro http://www.metrolisboa.pt/index_uk.htm. A clickable map with links to the city plan is available at http://www.metrolisboa.pt/diagrede.htm.

Arriving in Lisboa (Airport)

When at Aeroporto de Lisboa you will need to transfer to the Hotel Praia-Mar in Carcavelos (very near Oeiras), a ride of 15 Km. You can transfer to the hotel by taxi but there is a public transportation alternative (see below: by Public Transport)

By Taxi:

WARNING!!!!

Taking taxis in Lisboa airport is a bit tricky. The taxi row at arrivals has a mixed population of legal and "wild" taxis, that charge madly without asking.

TIP: I always go to the taxi row that stops in front of the entrance to the departures lounge, a very short walking distance. For rides to Oeiras/Carcavelos the correct fare is around Euro 25 - 30 and the surcharge for all the luggage you carry a maximum 1.5 Euro per ride. Even in that taxi row I always ask them what they will charge, just in case, before hiring them.

PLEASE make a good note of the above recommendations; there is sadly a high risk of robbery if you take just the first taxi on arrivals.

My advice: PLEASE use the departures row taxis only.

If you need receipts from Taxis, make sure that they show the license plate number, the words "Factura/Recibo" and a serial number. Otherwise they are unofficial and not to be used in accounting

By Public Transport:

Alternatively, for Euro2.30 you can take the Aerobus (free for TAP passengers) http://www.carris.pt/ingles/especiais/aerobus.html to the train station (Cais-do-Sodre) and there take the suburban train (the one that goes through Oeiras) and step out at Carcavelos. The hotel is at the seaside, just before the "Marginal" road that is parallel to the train line and next to the beach. You will need to walk about 300m (or take a local taxi).
