Quekett Microscopical Club
A visit has been arranged for Quekett members at the library of the Wellcome collection 14:30 on Tuesday
Their own introduction says it all: -
“The Wellcome Library is one of the most extraordinary libraries in the world. Where else would you find such disparate material as a first edition of Gray’s Anatomy, a recording of Florence Nightingale’s voice, Tibetan banners, 15 th century Armenian manuscripts, images of flu viruses, advertisements for toothpaste, the scientific papers of Francis Crick, Van Gough’s only etching, drawings by Michelangelo, books bound in human skin, AIDS campaign posters, one of the rarest works of Manchu literature or an ancient Egyptian prescription written on papyrus?”
Our visit will comprise a general introduction to this fascinating library, and then an opportunity to view a range of books specially selected to suit our interests.
The library is at 183 Euston Road, NW1 2BE. It is a very short walk from Euston Square tube station or Euston tube and mainline station. There is an excellent Peyton & Byrne café on site, for those who may not have time to eat lunch before travelling. Additionally there is also the superb “Medicine Man” permanent exhibition of items from Henry Wellcome’s own very eclectic collection, which could be viewed in the morning.
Numbers attending will be limited to 15, so book early to secure a place, as tickets will be allocated on the “First come, first served” principle.
