CHANGES TO THE WEBSITE |
Note from the Webmaster - June 2007 Over the past few years, the Quekett website has grown from a very small site to one with a large amount of content. This change has been accentuated over the past few months by the introduction of the new member's area and Member's Forum - so the total content has increased even further. These cumulative changes now mean that it is time to reorganise the website, so that visitors can be guided to items without having to spend too much time searching for them. To allow this to happen, it is necessary to alter the basic structure of the site, to introduce 'menus' to the main pages and to produce a complete site-index. The general appearance of some of the current pages will also be changed, so as to fit in with the new style. This work will take a little while to complete, so some pages may look a little strange whilst the work takes place - please bear with us during this period. To help you use the site, two new pages have just been added - Changes to the site (this page) and Using this Site - links to these can be found at the bottom of the main menu bar. Another page, to be added shortly, will be the Latest News Page which will, as its name implies, list notes of latest happenings in the Quekett and the world of microscopy in general. It has been pointed out to us, that one of the main strengths of the site is the range of images and accompanying short notes that Tony Saunders-Davies introduced during his years as webmaster. These will not be lost and in fact will still form the heart of the site, such is their interest to many members and visitors. This will also act as a permanent tribute to the dedication that Tony put into starting and maintaining this website despite his deteriorating health. Hopefully it will be a fitting monument to his great love of microscopy and the enthusiasm with which he helped others less knowledgeable than himself. He never turned down a request for help and guidance. Submissions of a similar nature are always welcome - if you would like to add anything to the website please feel free to contact me (link on 'contacts' page). Tony Jarratt |
