The Weekend - part II
A demonstration followed on Saturday afternoon, and it was nice to see that an American visitor, Prof Ryan Tweeney had come along to see the Quekett in action, and on the Sunday Gossip he showed a most unusual portable stand.
Although there was a separate 'Demonstration' (the theme was 'capturing the image') on Saturday afternoon, it turned into a Gossip meeting, with people freely asking questions and discussing the exhibits. A separate Gossip was also held on the Sunday afternoon, and I'm putting the two together after reporting on the Saturday Dinner.

This was an excellent occasion. Bryan Tabor, the President, made a speech (left) reporting on the healthy state of the Club, and presenting Allan Brinkworth with a hat inscribed with the Quekett monograph in recognition of all the hard work he had put in organising the meeting (Centre). Right: another table with our American visitor, Prof. Ryan Tweeney, seen at the far end.
The Demonstrations and Gossip provided a wide range of exhibits. I have only room for a small selection here:
|
Kit Brownlee and John Garrett discuss John's 'plastic bag' water immersion objective technique. |

Tony Dutton shows an appreciative audience (including the College Manageress) his video shots of Dingley Fuge's diatom slides. |

Left - Ancient and Modern! Don Thomson showed a small nineteenth century stand sporting a twentyfirst century digital camera! Right - Brian Singleton fires up his laptop, showing some excellent video clips, while John Garrett adjusts his Nikon Coolpix 990 on his microscope. (My thanks to Brian for supplying some of the photographs) |
