THE GOSSIP MEETING - 21/02/06

Tony Dutton kindly supplied the pictures for this report using the Club's newly acquired digital camera.

Each Gossip Meeting is 'themed'; the theme for this one was 'Interference Microscopy' and Phil Greaves gave the lecturette:

The President, Maurice Moss (standing), introduces Phil Greaves for his talk on Interference Microscopy.

Phil discussed the problems confronting the amateur in this field, and described his own setup. After his talk he displayed some of his results:

On the left is a diatom strew, on the right some algal cells

As is usual after the talk members were free to wander around and take a look at other exhibits, or simply chat about mutually interesting topics:

One of the Club's most knowledgeable members, Bill Boorn, talks to a member about some slides he is exhibiting.

Kit Brownlee take a good look at Phil's exhibit

Here members examine a rather older instrument, which certainly predated the introduction of interference microscopy!

At gossip meetings members are not constrained to exhibit material that is necessarily related to the topic.

I am most grateful to Tony Dutton for this report. I hope that with the acquisition of our digital camera, this will be the first of many.
