Professor Michael C. Boulter has been Professor in Palaeobiology at the
University of East London since 1990. His inauguration was the same evening that
Margaret Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister. From University College London he
continued to work with Cenozoic pollen and spores,
taxonomically, stratigraphically, palaeoecologically and palaeoclimatically. His

Professor Boulter has been secretary of the International Organisation of
Palaeobotany since 1978, a Leverhulme Research Fellow in the early nineties, and
is now chairman of the UK Committee for Biodiversity.
