CODENET - how you can participate

1. Culture-based studies - particularly those which address different questions to those currently under study in the network (e.g. no-one is looking at DMS poduction yet, or carrying out continuous culture experiments). We have a large collection of strains now and are always open to new ways of putting them to good use.
   
2. Biometric studies of the CODENET species - these studies are at the core of our work on species concepts and microevolution. We are doing much work in this area, but for any species there is an essentially infinite amount of possible work and exchanging data between people doing parallel studies is proving a very effective way of getting a substantial body of work done. Moreover, it is our experience to date that different methodologies (from LM graticule measurements to image analysis of captured SEM images) produce remarkably similar results. So, if you are working on, or planning, morphometric studies of any of the CODENET species (or their ancestors) we would be delighted to hear from you.
   
3. (Palaeo)ecological studies including the CODENET species - we are always interested in results on distribution of the CODENET species, especially in well-constrained datasets - e.g. Milankovitch cyclicity studies with independent data on ecological controls, or plankton studies across well-defined ecological gradients.
   
4. Palaeontological evidence of evolutionary relationships the fossil record of coccolihs is exceptionally good, but there are many outstanding qestions on the relationships between different families. Do you have new data on the Liassic or Danian radiations?

1. Just get in touch with any of the participants you know, we are always willing to discuss possibilities.
   
2. Ask to join the CODENET mailing list - there is an email list for the project, this is not very busy and much of the communication is a bit bureaucratic but if you have a special interest in the project we almost certainly will let you listen in on what we are up to - to subscribe ask Jeremy Young.
   
3. Browse the web site, find out what we are up to and ask to join in (email links are scattered through the site).
   
4. There will be a major CODENET presence at the INA 8 conference in Bremen. The exact format is yet to be fixed but this will probably be via thematic open sessions including both talks from CODENET participants and other workers with relevant contributions.
5. PostDocs - there may be opportunities for short term post-docs as some people leave the group. If you are interested to be kept informed send an email to Jeremy.
