Extract from: O'Shea, B.J. 1997. British
Bryological Society Expedition to Mulanje Mountain, Malawi. 9. Regmatodontaceae,
Rhachitheciaceae, Rhacocarpaceae and Rhizogoniaceae (Bryopsida). Journal
of Bryology 19(4).
The family contains only one genus.
Key to the species of Regmatodon (Eakin,
1975)
| Seta rough throughout; endostome teeth
translucent and not dotted; walls of the exothecial cells irregularly
thickened, appearing collenchymatous (Distribution: As3-4) |
R. declinatus |
| Seta smooth throughout; endostome
teeth translucent and densely dotted; walls of the exothecial cells
regularly thickened longitudinally, the transverse walls appearing
thinner (Distribution: As2-4, Afr2-3, Am2,4-5) |
R. polycarpus |
A sterile specimen is effectively unidentifiable.
However, no specimens of R. polycarpus with serrate leaf tips
have been collected, although this character is exhibited by a large
majority of R. declinatus specimens.
