Who We Are
The Natural History Museum Fencing Club was founded
nearly 40 years ago. Today it remains a thriving informal
club with around 30 members. Our president is Mick Webb,
who has been fencing with the club for much of its
history.
We usually fence steam foil but sometimes fight with sabre and electric epée. We generally meet for about an hour on
Wednesday lunchtimes. Venues change
according to room availability: information about the
next session can be found here.
Showers and changing facilities are available.
Membership is open to anyone, regardless of whether or
not they work at the Museum. However, for non-Museum
staff there is a per-session fee of £2 (or £1 if you have your own equipment). Alternatively, an annual membership fee entitles you to associate membership of the museum's sports association with the added benefits of access to other clubs, shop discounts and free entrance to certain exhibitions. It also gets you easier museum access with a security pass.
We welcome beginners
and can provide a basic introduction to the sport
an ideal opportunity to see if you like it without making
a big commitment of time or money. Although the club does
not have an accredited coach, the president does
occasionally teach novice fencers on an ad hoc basis -
and any of the other members will be happy to show you
the basics.
The Club has at least one social a year
usually at Christmas time but were always
open to suggestions!
...So why not come along and join probably the most
informal fencing club in London.
