    Frequently asked questions

    What should I bring?

Make sure you bring a sleeping bag, toothbrush and some clothes to sleep in. To keep luggage to a minimum, we recommend arriving in the clothes you’ll sleep in.

For health and safety reasons you must wear shoes at all times inside the Museum, apart from when you’re sleeping. The clothes you’ll sleep in need to be suitable and warm enough to stand outside in during an emergency evacuation.

We recommend you also bring a water bottle, pillow, torch and an eye mask to sleep in, as some lights will remain on throughout the night.

We’ll provide you with thin, foam sleeping mats, but feel free to bring your own if you’d prefer. For health and safety reasons, inflatable mats or mattresses more than five centimetres thick are not allowed. If you need to bring a specific sleeping mat for medical reasons, let us know when you book so we can make sure it meets our health and safety requirements.

We recommend you don’t bring any items of financial or sentimental value, as we can’t take any responsibility if these get lost, stolen or damaged.

You won’t be able to plug in any electrical items during the event, so we recommend you bring a portable charger with you.

Do I need to bring food?

A three-course dinner and cooked breakfast are included in your ticket, so you don’t need to bring food with you unless you want to. Water, tea and coffee will be served with dinner and other drinks and bar snacks will be available to buy until 00.45.

We’ll email you before the event with the menu options and to check if you have any dietary requirements.

How do I get to the Museum?

You can find directions on our Getting Here page. If you’re using public transport to get here, use TFL’s website to plan your journey.

What time do I need to arrive, and which entrance should I use?

Use our main entrance on Cromwell Road. The entrance will open at 18.30 and we’ll give you your camping mat on arrival so you can set up your camp for the night before the activities begin at 19.15.

    What if I’m running late?

If you think you may not get here on time, email us.

If you arrive late, you may miss some activities. If you arrive after 20.00, unfortunately we won’t be able to let you in and you won’t be given a refund.

    Where will I sleep?

You’ll sleep in Hintze Hall. Sleeping areas are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

    Is there a cloakroom?

You won’t be able to use our cloakrooms during the event, instead your belongings will be kept in the sleeping areas. Our cloakrooms are only available during our public opening hours between 10.00 and 17.30. If you pay to leave your luggage in our cloakrooms during the day before the event that evening, you’ll need to remove these by 17.30, leave the building and then re-enter at 18.30.

What washing rooms and toilets are available?

Toilets are available for washing, teeth cleaning and changing, however there are no showers available.

    Can I drink alcohol?

Drinking alcohol at the event is allowed, though we ask everyone to drink responsibly. Anybody considered to be acting irresponsibly may be refused any more alcohol or may be asked to leave the event. You can’t bring your own alcohol with you, but there will be cash bars in various locations that will be open until 01.00.

There will be a smoking area for you to use outside our Exhibition Road entrance doors until 02.30.

    Can I bring candles?

    No, candles are not allowed.

What if someone in my group falls ill?

We have first-aiders available to help.

Can I add people to my group?

You can add people to your booking if tickets are still available, but if the event is sold out this won’t be possible. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

What if I need to cancel?

We can’t offer you a refund once you’ve purchased your ticket. If you would like to move the date of your event you must tell us at least 30 days beforehand.
