Crochet away

Join us for an extraordinary crochet workshop led by the designers from TOFT.

Calling all crafters: take part in a workshop led by crochet experts TOFT, then tour the Museum's behind-the-scenes tank room.

In this unique workshop you will use Kerry Lord's new mini kit to make your own version of Archie, the 8.62-metre-long giant squid specimen at the Museum - you'll get to meet Archie on your tour.

You will be given everything you need to make your squid: wool, stuffing, crochet hook, sewing-up accessories and pattern, plus all the expert tuition you'll need to complete your craft.

You will learn how to read a crochet pattern, start and finish each body part, and sew them all together. The TOFT team will be on-hand for any troubleshooting.

Light refreshments are also included in the workshop.

Your 15-minute tour of the tank room will be guided by one of our science educators. You'll meet Archie and see other weird and wonderful specimens.

After booking, please email after-hours@nhm.ac.uk to select a time slot for your tank room tour.

If you're attending the morning workshop (11.00-12:30), you will get to pick from the following times of a tour of the tank room afterwards:

14.15, 14.30

If you're attending the afternoon workshop (13.30-15.00),  you will get to pick from the following times of a tour of the tank room beforehand:

10.30, 10.45, 11.00, 11.15

Please note that the timeslots are allocated on a first come, first served basis as we are limited to 10 people per tour. We will endeavour to give you your preference, however this may not be possible and so the closest available time slot will be allocated.
