KS3: Who works at the Museum?

4. After your visit: review your activity

Reflect on your Cocoon visit. Decide what information you will use for your presentation and any areas you still need to research.

Group discussion

What surprised you about the Cocoon self-led tour? Talk to the person next to you, starting your sentence with: 'I never knew that…'. Discuss with the class as well.

Microscope image quiz

Did you see scanning electron microscope (SEM) images in the Cocoon experience? Try to guess what the SEM images are on the 'What's Under the lens' page.

Go to 'What's under the lens?'

With a partner, write down the numbers 1-12 and next to each write what you think the image is showing. Then compare your answers with another group. Where you do not agree, discuss which clues led to your decisions. Now, look at the answers below the slideshow to see how many you identified correctly.

NaturePlus cards

To access the information you saved during your Cocoon visit, go to the NaturePlus homepage and enter the number on your NaturePlus card during the registration process. Look through the links you collected and find examples and evidence for points in your presentation.

Presentation

Do you have enough information to be able to talk knowledgeably about how one Museum scientist studies biodiversity? Start putting information in to your template now (go to the Choose your role page if you haven't downloaded your template yet). Use your booklet and your NaturePlus links.

Make sure you have covered:
  • Who is studying biodiversity?
  • What does biodiversity mean?
Name one example of how biodiversity has been measured:
  • Which species?
  • What have they found out?
  • Where did they go to collect?
Scientist

If you are presenting at a science conference you will need to show some scientific results.

You can get a set of results using the World Biodiversity Map.

Go to Worldmap

For instructions, go to our page about how to use Worldmap.

Go to 'How to use worldmap'

News reporter

You may also want to include key facts about the Darwin Centre such as how many specimens are in the Darwin Centre. You can use the Darwin centre press and media page to find extra information and images.

Go to Darwin Centre press & media

Radio

Have you collected examples of scientists? Pick one person who is a botanist or an entomologist. If you need extra sounds for effect, use the British Library sound archive.
