With the natural world playing a key part in what we do, we consider sustainability and the environmental impact of everything the Museum does. And this extends to the way we manage and run events.
We were the first UK museum to achieve ISO14001 environmental management accreditation across our whole estate.
We also work closely with other Museum departments and our suppliers to minimise the impact every event has on the environment.
We evaluate the environmental performance of our suppliers and contractors, and help and support them to develop and supply environmentally preferable goods and services.
At the first Green500 and Better Buildings Partnership Awards in 2009, the Natural History Museum won a Platinum Award for reducing its carbon footprint through building and energy management. The Museum has invested £3 million in a combined heat and power (CHP) energy system to harness heat from on-site power generation.
