About the editors

As Director of Science, Richard Lane is responsible for earth and life sciences as well as the Library and Information Services of the Natural History Museum. His function is to set the strategy for science and ensure that research is relevant and maintained at a high quality. 

He was a senior lecturer at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and head of the vector biology unit. Richard's research has been on various aspects of insect vectors of disease. As a consequence of this and other activities he has travelled extensively in the developing world. He has been a consultant to a number of governments for the World Health Organization and on external review bodies for several research organisations in the UK and overseas.

Roger Crosskey works in the Department of Entomology at the Natural History Museum.
