Details

Starting from the first signs of ancient life in Strelley Pool, Western Australia, iPad users can swipe, pinch and tap the breath-taking illustrated Timeband to discover over 800 creatures and plants from our evolutionary past.

Combining the latest digital technology, audio-visual footage and painstaking research of the fossil record, NHM Evolution presents 100 major fossil sites for exploration.

Using the touch-screen functionality, users can explore and scrutinise every detail and learn at their own speed.

Go behind the scenes with Museum scientists as they explain key events using specimens from the collections. Learn about the origins of life, snowball glaciations, the Cambrian explosion, evolving dinosaurs and human evolution. Examine iconic fossils with the use of spectacular 360-degree, high definition imagery.

Features include:

  • A Timeband featuring 100 major archaeological sites and 800 creatures and plants that lived there
  • A dynamic Timeglobe based on a unique set of data compiled specially for the app, showing how Earth’s tectonic plates have reconfigured through time for every fossil site.
  • A complete Timeline, with text and audio commentaries for every eon, era and period.
  • A spell-binding Exhibition feature, which presents 34 iconic fossils for examination.
  • 17 individual multi-media treatments explaining the great Events of Earth’s evolutionary past, including snowball glaciations and mass extinctions.
