Details

The year 2009 is the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth (12th February) and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species (24th November). This week-to-view diary commemorates these events and is a celebration of both Darwin's life and work.

Key events and people in his life are highlighted and include those linked to his historic voyage to South America on HMS Beagle, the 40 years he spent living at Down House developing his ideas and, of course, the actual presentation of his revolutionary theory of natural selection and all his published works.

The diary is illustrated throughout with artworks and photographs of people and objects connected to his life, with many drawn from the Natural History Museum's own extensive archives.
