Human remains update

Holding statement

Over the last two days Sir Laurence Street and Lord Woolf have conducted a mediation between the Natural History Museum and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC), with the Australian Government as observers. The discussions concern the details for the agreed return of the remains of 13 Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Both parties agree that it has been a valuable exercise which has led to a greater understanding of each others' views. Given the complexity of the issues, the Natural History Museum's Board of Trustees will have further discussions over the coming days with a view to an announcement on Tuesday.
