Print sale: Friday 20 April - Sunday 22 April 2007
Lovers of wildlife, photography and art will have a unique opportunity to showcase the very best images of nature in their own homes at an unbeatable price. Following the huge success of the first ever sale in December 2005, thousands of winning and commended framed and unframed prints from Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competitions 1997-2004 will go on sale at the Natural History Museum from Friday 20 April to Sunday 22 April 2007. Images will be displayed in six categories - animals, landscape, birds, underwater, plants and abstract - ensuring there will be something for everyone.
These specially selected images previously toured in exhibitions across the country and around the world. Every print tells a story, and some of the images are captioned to reveal the tale of how and why they were taken. Prices for these bought-as-seen prints start at just £15 when you purchase three or more unframed prints.
'The last sale was a real success,' said Venetia Khan, 2D Exhibition Manager, Natural History Museum who is organising the Print Sale. 'By popular demand we're giving photography and nature fans another chance to take home some of the world's most iconic wildlife images.'
The Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition, owned by the Natural History Museum and BBC Wildlife Magazine, is the most prestigious and successful event of its kind in the world. The exhibition launches at the Natural History Museum every year, and tours across the UK and five continents after its London debut.
Open to amateur and professional photographers, the 2007 competition is now accepting entries. All images must be submitted by 23 March 2007 (by post) or 30 March 2007 (online). Entrants stand to win an impressive £10,000 prize if they become the overall Shell Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition winner - the highest prize ever offered in this competition. Category winners and runners up will also share in the £23,550 prize pool.
