Developing the Website

Our website continues to grow and diversify. It is now a substantial resource with about 100 distinct sections, including 15 websites hosted for other natural sciences organizations. More than 50 people within the Museum contribute material to its pages.

The popular Dino Directory and BG Wildlife Photographer of the Year pages helped to generate record numbers of web visits, up by more than 50 per cent across the year from 3.1 million to 4.7 million. In November we recorded 2.2 million page hits, our highest ever monthly total.

The website is constantly evolving as we enhance existing pages and add new features. During the year we launched the Wildlife Garden Seasons and Investigate pages, we introduced a `virtual gallery' of 3D objects, and we developed our web coverage of the Darwin Centre.
