Our Aim:
to be a world leader in systematic biology and mineralogy research.

The Museum's team of 350 scientific and curatorial staff is constantly extending our knowledge and understanding of the natural world.

We collaborate with colleagues at museums, universities and other centres of learning to advance understanding of the complex issues associated with evolution and patterns of biodiversity. Our core strengths are in systematics, the science that describes organisms and minerals and investigates their origins and the links between them.

We share our knowledge and resources with the international scientific community – last year we welcomed no fewer than 9,016 scientists who visited us for a total of 15,074 visitor days.
