Dino-Birds: The Feathered Dinosaurs of China
18 July 2002 – 5 May 2003
Recently discovered fossils from China are the centrepiece of our special exhibition Dino-Birds: The Feathered Dinosaurs of China. In 2000 farmers in Liaoning Province, north-east China, unearthed a fossil with the bony skeleton of a predatory dinosaur but fringed with a coat of feathers. This exciting discovery seems finally to have solved the mystery of how birds evolved from meat-eating dinosaurs. The UK public is the first in Europe to see this and another 12 dinobird fossils on loan from The Geological Museum of China.
