Three years after it opened, Darwin Centre Phase One is establishing itself as a benchmark of excellence. We are now putting the finishing touches to our plans for Phase Two, which will complete our vision for the Museum of the future when it opens in 2008.
We are setting benchmarks in other ways too. Our researchers are making important discoveries about the natural world and its evolution. Our curators are at the forefront of new developments in collections management. Our public engagement teams are introducing new approaches that interpret our collections and our knowledge in ways that engage, inspire and entertain.
The first collected specimen of Theobroma cacao, the plant from which chocolate is made, is kept in the Museum.
