Museum Staff: Temporary staff of the Department of Zoology 1910-14, 1919-39 and 1945-50; Honorary Associate 1950-52 In 1910 he was appointed as a part-time worker in the department of Zoology to work on arranging the bird collections, a role which he continued on and off until 1950. In 1927 he was undertaking scientific work on birds and visited (and collected in) Senegal on behalf of the BM(NH). From 1928 until 1939 Bannerman worked on 'Birds of Tropical West Africa'. A book in numerous volumes that was jointly funded by the Colonial Office and BM(NH). BY 1930 the first 5 volumes of the book had been published. During his time at BM(NH) Bannerman also worked on cataloguing various collections of birds from West Africa and incorporating them into the main collections, he was also responsible for supervising the work of the artists. During WWII he was called up by the War Office to work as an Assistant Cable Censor. In 1942 he returned to writing the book although he was unable to publish any further volumes until after the war, and it was finally finished in 1947. In 1950 he was made an honorary associate of the BM(NH) to honour is work and contributions to the museum. From 1965 - 1966 he visited the Cape Verde Islands Obituary: Ibis 1979: 520-522.
