Colin joined the Bird Section staff as Experimental Officer in 1960 to take charge of the egg collection.  He transferred to Tring with the collections in 1971 and retired as Principal Scientific Officer in 1986.  Latterly he studied fossil birds spending time in the Department of Palaeontology at South Kensington.
