Research interests

  • Systematics and phylogeny of cyclophyllidean cestodes, with special emphasis on the families Paruterinidae, Metadilepididae, Dilepididae and Progynotaeniidae.
  • Cestode life cycles.

Current activities

  • Taxonomic revision of the cestode superfamily Paruterinoidea (Paruterinidae and Metadilepididae).
  • Diversity of Neotropical cestodes from birds, with an emphasis on newly collected materials from Costa Rica and Paraguay.
  • Phylogenetic interrelations of cyclophyllidean cestode families (based on morphological data and molecular sequences).
  • The family Progynotaeniidae: taxonomy, phylogeny and coevolution with charadriiform birds.
  • Role of brine shrimps of the genus Artemia in the life cycles of avian cestodes.
  • Evolution of cestode life cycles.
